What We Do

YWCA NSRCC staff present to classrooms, educate providers on our services, train professionals to become more comfortable responding to disclosures of sexual assault, and empower our communities to help prevent future acts of violence throughout the North Shore.

Presentations may be chosen from our list of established topics, or we can work with you to create a unique learning opportunity tailored to your needs, experience, and areas of interest. Presentation Options:

• Professional Presentations: 
  • SEEKing Support: Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Assault
    Using the SEEK model developed at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (Safety, Empowerment, Empathy, Knowledge), the goal of this workshop is to increase participants’ comfort in responding to disclosures of sexual assault, to clarify what their role is in the moment of disclosure, and to facilitate the survivor’s access to available options and additional support opportunities.
  • Medical & Legal Advocacy for Survivors
    After receiving a disclosure of sexual assault, first responders, providers, other professionals and even friends & family are in a unique position to help survivors access time-sensitive resources. This training is designed as a follow-up to our SEEKing Support workshop and helps familiarize community members with the medical and legal options for survivors, including information about time-sensitive and long-term options.
• Educational Presentations (Youth Workshops and Presentations for High School and College-Age Students):
  • The Basics: Understanding Boundaries and Consent
    Upbeat and positive, “The Basics” is a forthright conversation about the importance of developing personal sexual boundaries and respecting the sexual boundaries of others. “The Basics” leads students through relevant and creative scenarios to discuss the four major components that make up enthusiastic and affirmative consent: explicit communication, mutual agreement, reversibility, and capability.
  • On Flirting and Dating: 21^st Century Guide to Healthy Relationship
    An interactive and upbeat conversation about love and dating in the 21^st century. Focused on boundary building and respect, this workshop looks at preventing youth dating violence in a new way.
